THE SWISS RED TRAINS
The Swiss railways are famous in the world for their network of lines – some of them narrow-gauge – crossing the mountains along terrific landscapes. Most of the trains are painted in a brilliant red, hence the name.
The closest circuit from Milan is across the Bernina pass, climbing up to 2,253 meters above s/l and connecting the small Italian town of Tirano with the Swiss alpine resort of St. Moritz. The excursion can be done in a day, leaving early morning from Milan and returning in the evening. Depending on the dates, organized tours are available with bus transfer to Tirano, otherwise the journey can be done daily by train or private cars.
